Free to the Public Practice Sessions Scheduled for April 19th & 26th at Riverhead
Despite the fact there is no official racing on the two annual pre-season practice days at Riverhead Raceway they are perhaps the two most anticipated days of the season for both competitors and fans alike and Saturday afternoon April 19th and 26th at Barbara & Jim Cromarty’s historic oval will be no exception. As the lunch siren sounds at 12 noon so will the first green flag of 2014 at Riverhead Raceway with the NASCAR stock cars and later in the day the Enduro cars testing and tuning and best of all the grandstand admission is FREE!
The pre-season practice sessions are going to be especially important to several NASCAR Modified teams who will go into the Saturday night May 3rd opening night Twin 30 features with all new cars for 2014. Eddie Brunnhoelzl III of Levittown, Dave Sapienza of Riverhead and Ken Darch also of Riverhead will debut new Troyer Engineering machines and want to get as many laps in as they can. The April 16th date will loom very important for drivers such as last years championship runner-up Timmy Solomito of Islip as well 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece of Berlin, Ct. both of whom will be unable to make the April 26th session due to the Spring Sizzler WMT race at Stafford Motor Speedway. Preece will actually share the seat in 2014 in the Bill & Barbara Park #20 with Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield, Ct who will run the 2 WMT at Riverhead in the car as well as 5-6 weekly shows.
Several Late Model drivers are looking forward to logging some laps including Chris McGuire of Shirley and rookie driver Chris Lescenski of Riverhead. Tested tough veteran also look forward to these practice days too and look no forward to all-time leading LM winner Roger Oxee of Peconic who has once again put retirement on the back burner as he’ll come to 2014 with an all new McBetts power plant under the hood. Defending champion Jeremy McDermott of Riverhead and car owner Jim Wichert of East Islip have totally reworked their championship car as well.
Whether your a seasoned driver, a team with a new car or set-up for 2014 or a rookie the two practice days are very important and teams that fall into that category are urged to try and make the fist day April 19th. The NASCAR stock cars will have the track until around 4:00 pm and then it will be time for the Enduro racers to check out their equipment in anticipation of their Sunday May 4th lid lifter.
Pit gates on both April 16th & 26th will open at 9:00 am with Safety Technical Inspection starting at that time as well. Keep in mind no car can practice until going through and passing Safety Tech! Hoosier Tire of Calverton, who also serves as the Sunoco Race Fuels distributor will be at Riverhead Raceway on April 19th but not the 26th, teams are again encouraged to make arrangements by call them at 631-369-1365.
