School Bus Demo & Fireworks On Tap for I Love America Night on Aug. 23rd
It will indeed be a patriotic and spectacular night all rolled into one Saturday August 23rd at Barbara & Jim Cromarty’s Riverhead Raceway as they present the annual I Love America Night program featuring another amazing Fireworks display as well a School Bus Demolition Derby on Miller Lite night. A full slate of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car racing will also unfold on Donaldson’s Volkswagen-Subaru night as the 2014 season enters its final month of competition.
The chase for the 2014 NASCAR Modified title has been tightening up recently with defending champion Howie Brode of East Islip and Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead the two main players going into the August 23rd 35-lap main event. Rogers’ recent hot streak has seen Brode’s one time comfortable point lead shrink somewhat, a trend Howie hopes to reverse. After a week off the “world famous” Figure Eight stock cars return to action for a 15-lap event with Rogers again in the championship hunt as well. Here Tom hopes to reel in championship leader Roger Maynor of Bay Shore
20-lap feature events are on the racing menu for the Chargers, Blunderbusts and Legend Race Cars with championship implications in all three feature event races. Rounding out the stock car portion of the show will be a 50-lap Grand Enduro as Greg Zaleski of Jamesport hopes to make it two wins in a row after he won on August 2nd.
Once all the Miller Lite night and Donaldson’s Volkswagen-Subaru hardware and racing has been completed the racing arena will be turned over to award winning Bay Fireworks for yet another breathtaking pyrotechnic display. Back in July Bay Fireworks once again left the Riverhead Raceway audience on their feet with their display and you can count on the same for I Love America night. A wonderful mix of music will again accompany the Fireworks presentation.
If the first School Bus Demolition Derby was any indication of things to come for Saturday, well hold on because you will be going for a wild ride! Back in July fan favorite “Cheesebox” Michael Rommeney of Maspeth would take the win but not after a 45-minute battle. “JYD” John Denniston of Westbury threw all he could at Rommeney before coming up just a bit short. “Irish” Mike O’Keefe of Islip was in the mix for the win as well but the event lasted so long he ran out of gas and wants revenge August 23rd. Also expected to compete are Dennis “The Menace” Scott of Bay Shore, Chris Van Cott of Commack and Charlie Zukowski of Riverhead.
