$1,500 On the Line for Miller Lite National Demo Derby Championship at Riverhead
Despite the fact that it will take place a few weeks earlier in the Riverhead Raceway schedule than in the past, excitement is building for the 51st annual Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Saturday September 6th with a handsome $1,500 awaiting the last man standing. A full car of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car racing will precede the National Championship Demo.
All the top Demolition Derby daredevils are expected to compete September 6th at Riverhead Raceway in the event which was won in 2013 by Brian Savoy of Lake Panamoka. Unfortunately Brian due to health issues has been unable to compete in 2014 but his brother Jason Savoy, the 2013 Riverhead track champion is expected to be on hand in his “Misery Machine”. Jimmy “The Kid” White Jr. of Southampton has dominated victory lane in 2014 in Demo events and will bear watching as well. “The 911” George Astacio of Shirley who competes to raise Autism awareness is also readying for the big event. Last year Nicholas Malverty of Spring Hill, Florida nearly pulled off an upset win and the teenage sensation is hoping to come north September 6th. Do not at all be surprised to see “Cheesebox” Michael Rommeney of Maspeth or for that matter “The Wildchild” Tommy Walkowiak of Ridge in the line-up, while the duo has not competed at Riverhead in 2014 but the $1,500 carrot might be enough for them to go for it. “Jackpot” Jack Levix of Holbrook, “Pistol” Pete Mikos of Lake Ronkonkoma Preston Scott Prydatko of Lindenhurst the father & son tandem of Rich & Andrew Fowler of Wantagh and “Fabulous” Brian Fass of Holbrook have all expressed interest in going after the big money.
Prior to the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Championship a full slate of NASCAR stock car action will be on tap will all winners taking home a Miller Lite trophy among other goodies. The NASCAR Modifieds will run not one but two 30-lap feature events in the Twin 30 format and be joined by the Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks. NASCAR Modified qualifying will take place at 5:15 pm with feature event racing slated for 6:00 pm.
