Miller Lite Hosting National Demo Derby Championship at Riverhead
The 2014 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will enter its final month of competition at Barbara & Jim Cromarty’s Riverhead Raceway Saturday September 6th with a full card of racing featuring Twin 30’s for the NASCAR Modifieds. Also highlighting the program will be the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Championship with a star studded roster of daredevils going for the $1,500 winner’s share.
For Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead the Miller Lite night will find him in not one but two championship battles keeping him at the top of his game. Rogers and defending NASCAR Modified champion Howie Brode of East Islip are locked in the 2014 NASCAR Modified championship fight and the Twin 30’s will go a long way into which driver takes the sought after title. Then in the 20-lap Miller Lite night Figure Eight feature Rogers will carry a slim 2-point lead over Roger Maynor of Bay Shore with this race being the second to last of the season.
The Chargers will run a 30-lap feature event for the Miller Lite trophy with defending champion Eric Zeh of Selden and Chris Turbush of Wading River the main combatants for the 2014 crown. The Late Models will go 25 laps and Mike Bologna of Melville seems destined for his third career title in that class. Jack Handley Jr. of Medford will lead the Blunderbusts into action with a comfortable cushion in the championship chase. Another division that might find their 2014 championship go down to the final points night (9-20) are the Super Pro Trucks with Erin Solomito of Hampton Bays leading Lou Maestri of Deer Park and Mark Stewart of Riverhead.
Once all the stock car racing is in the books it will be time to decide the 2014 Miller Lite National Demolition Derby champion with “Mad” Mike Smith of Kings Park recently declaring he’d be going after the big payday. Jimmy “The Kid” White Jr. of Southampton has dominated victory lane in 2014 and will be going after his first career National Championship. Preston S. Prydatko of Lindenhurst will also be on hand in his “Tankasaurus” machine. 2013 Riverhead Demo champion Jason Savoy of Lake Panamoka will make his first start of 2014, unfortunately his brother Brian, the defending race winner will not be able to compete due to lingering health issues. George “911” Astacio of Shirley, Michael “Cheesebox” Rommeney of Maspeth, “Jackpot” Jack Levix of Holbrook and Bob Faas of Holbrook are among those expected to enter.
