2015 Season Kicks Off With First Pre-Season Practice at Riverhead
The 2015 racing season kicked off at Riverhead Raceway on Saturday, April 18, 2015 with the first round of pre-season warm-ups. Multiple cars from each division were in attendance to test their cars and size up the competition for the fast approaching season.
Although many cars still need to finalize some of their graphic work, first time father, Eddie Brunnhoelzl III, driver of the No. 8x modified is all ready for the season to start. Even though he’d rather be home changing his son’s diapers.
Bill Park revealed that two drivers will be behind the wheel of the No. 20 this season. Both Ron Silk and Ryan Preece will be sharing control and according to Park there will be a surprise driver starting the engine on opening night.
The 2014 Legend Champion, Kyle Soper will not be returning to defend his championship instead he decided during the off season to purchase a modified which he will be competing in throughout the 2015 season.
Former Long Island Modified driver of the No. 22, Jim Kelly was present on Saturday to dial in his vintage modified for the Vintage Outlaw Racing Series which runs throughout the north east. With the help of Tommy Rogers Jr. they were able to get the car set up for the series.
With one more practice day on Saturday, April 25, 2015, hopefully many more drivers will take to the 1/5 of a mile oval to shake down their cars before opening day on Saturday, May 2, 2015. On the final practice day on Saturday, April 25, 2015, the pit gates will open at 9:00am for safety inspections with practice starting at 12:00pm. There is a fee to enter the pits however entrance into the grand stands is free.
