After Successful Debut Sunday Gut & Go Enduro Added to June 28th Riverhead Enduro Program
When the new Gut & Go Enduro event and their rules were introduced during the off season nobody at Riverhead Raceway knew quite what to expect when the first race was to be contested over the Memorial Day weekend. Well, this past Sunday no less than 24 cars showed up for the new event and indeed it was a success on and off the track With that in mind Barbara & Jim Cromarty announced Monday the addition of a Gut & Go Enduro to the Sunday June 28th race card.
The class which is limited to 4/6 Cylinder machines had quite a variety of cars on hand for the race which was eventually won by Peter Verwys Jr. of East Rockaway, who ironically enough won the first ever Enduro race staged at the track back on May 24th, 1986. The Gut & Go class was introduced to minimize both expenses and preparation of the race cars and indeed that worked to perfection. Bob Finan of Riverhead Raceway noted, “Rhett Fogg and his son Logan found a car Friday, gutted it Saturday and were racing it Sunday, that is the true intent of the Gut & Go, just like the old days”.
The June 28th Enduro program will find the Grand Enduros, Truck Enduros, 2 8-Cylinder Enduros as well a 4/6-Cylinder Enduro joining the Gut & Go class. Action starts at 12:30 pm with the pit gates to open at 10:00 am.
