Valiant Effort Not Enough To Stop Mother Nature at Riverhead
Despite a valiant effort by Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty who attempted to wait out the light rain Saturday afternoon at Riverhead Raceway, Mother Nature would win out forcing the NASCAR Whelen All American Series show to be rained out.
What made the cancellation all the more frustrating is a star studded field of 21 NASCAR Modifieds were in the pits for the scheduled 50-lap main event. Hoping to join the Riverhead regulars in action were 2014 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby of Milford, CT, Woody Pitkat of Stafford, CT, Justin Bonsignore of West Islip, Eric Goodale of Riverhead, Brendon Bock of Franklin Square and Ken Heagy of Riverhead. The WMT regulars were also on hand to prepare for the Hoosier Tire 200 next Saturday June 27th.
A solid field of 15 Late Models were also signed in for their 30-lap event while the Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars all were hoping for a chance to race before it became obvious the rain was not going to let up. Also the annual East End Kart Racing Go Kart exhibition was a victim of the weather.
Next up, this Saturday June 27th is Buzz Chew Chevrolet-Cadillac night program featuring the Hoosier Tire 200 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Also in action are the Chargers who’ll compete in a 20-lap event while the Blunderbusts and Legend Race Cars go 30-laps with time trial qualifying. Feature event racing is set to start at 6:00 pm.
