Grand Enduro Set For Sat. Night Action July 11th
As the 2015 season enters its second half at Riverhead Raceway not only is the weather heating up but also the track action on the quarter mile oval is as well. Saturday evening July 11th the Grand Enduro division will join the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock cars with racing slated to start at 6:00 pm.
Early on in the Grand Enduro season Greg Zaleski of Jamesport won the first two races of 2015 sweeping the month of May before former champion Dave Antos of Lindenhurst took home the Saturday night June 13th victory. They along with the likes of Jess Martines of Shirley, Brian McCormack of Holbrook, Erick Zegel of Medford Phil LaManna of Smithtown and Ed Brown Jr. will all be gunning for victory lane in the 50-lap main event.
The NASCAR Modifieds will compete in a 35-lap feature event with qualifying via time trials and as the season enters the second half so does the chase for the 2015 championship. Among the contenders entering July is John Fortin Sr. of Holtsville who is hoping for a 4th career title. Chasing him are Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead, defending champion Howie Brode of E. Islip, Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT. Kyle Soper of Manorville, Shawn Solomito of E. Moriches, Jason Agugliaro of Islip, Vinny Biondolillo of Farmingville, Jerry Solomito Jr. of Hampton Bays and Ken Darch of Riverhead.
The Blunderbusts will also find themselves running a regular 20-lap feature event with time trial qualifying. The title fight is extremely close as Jack Handley Jr. of Medford and defending champion Tom Pickerell of Huntington entered the month of July in a tie at the top of the standings. Others in contention are Joe Warren Jr. of Ridge, Tom Sullivan of Massapequa, Terry Stiles of Rocky Point, Tim Mulqueen of Levittown, Scott Maliszewski of Deer Park, Ed Mistretta of Lindenhurst, Jim Laird Jr. of Islip Terrace and Derek Wegmann of Patchogue.
