School Bus Demo Derby To Rock Riverhead July 18th
Saturday night July 18th the earth will literally shake at Barbara & Jim Cromarty’s Riverhead Raceway when the popular School Bus Demolition Derby takes place after the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car portion of the program that gets underway at 6:00 pm.
From the very first time it was presented, the School Bus Demolition remains one of the most popular attractions on the annual Riverhead Raceway schedule. The July 18th event will be the first of two this season with the second set for Saturday August 22nd. Michael “Cheesebox” Rommeney of Bohemia is the defending champion of the July School Bus Demolition Derby as he edged out “Junk Yard Dog” John Denniston of Westbury and “Irish” Mike O’Keefe of Islip. No matter who wins the July 18th School Bus Demolition Derby the fans will not only enjoy the sight of the 13-ton buses coming together but also the thunderous noise they create while smashing into each other.
Another thrilling event set for the evening is the 15-lap Figure Eight event as drivers go for the win all the while avoiding the crossing traffic at the “X” intersection. Driving stars Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead, Roger Maynor of Bay Shore, Tom Ferrara of Patchogue, Ken Hyde Jr. of Mastic Beach, Scott Pedersen of Shirley and Gary Fritz Jr. of Mastic Beach will all be competing with the Figure Eights.
NASCAR Modifieds will go toe to toe in a 35-lap main event on July 18th with the Chargers, Legend Race Cars and a 4/6-Cylinder Car Enduro completing the program.
