Fireworks & School Bus Demo To Celebrate I Love America at Riverhead Aug. 22
Saturday night August 22nd Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty have planned another patriotic celebration for the annual I Love America night at the historic quarter mile facility. Coming off a stunning July 4th Fireworks display Bay Fireworks will be going all out again for the I Love America night card that will close out with a School Bus Demolition Derby.
Two longtime marketing partners of the Cromarty family and Riverhead Raceway Miller Lite and Donaldson’s Volkswagen of Sayville will host the program with all feature event winners taking home a trophy with their names on them. Miller Lite through Boening Brothers of Lindenhurst has been a sponsor at the track since 1985 while Donaldson’s has provided pace cars since 1989.
NASCAR stock car action for the evening will be provided by the NASCAR Modifieds, Figure Eights, Chargers and legend Race Cars with the Mods set to go 35 laps while the Chargers and Legend Race Cars compete in 20-lap events and the Figure Eight slated for 15-laps.
After the racing is completed the stadium lights will be lowered and Bay Fireworks will once again work their magic with a Pyrotechnic display set to patriotic music that will leave the fans breathless and proud to be an American.
If the first School Bus Demolition Derby was any indication of how the August 22nd event will be, well then hold onto your hats it will be hard hitting and amazing. July 18th saw brothers Michael “Cheesebox” Rommeney and Kevin Rommeney, a New York City MTA bus driver by trade slug it out in their 13-ton machines. In the end “Cheesebox” scored the popular win after Kevin’s bus stalled but not before they destroyed both buses. Joining the Rommeney clan on I Love America night will be the likes of “Irish” Mike O’Keefe, “Mad” Mike Smith and the “Junk Yard Dog” John Denniston.
