Miller Lite National Demo Derby Champion To Earn $2,500 Sept. 5th
Recently Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty announced the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Championship on Saturday September 5th would pay the winner a handsome $2,500 making it the richest event of its kind in the 65-year history of the track. The NASCAR Whelen All American Series stock cars will share the race card that starts at 6:00 pm.
Entering the 2015 season track officials introduced new “Bone Stock” rules for the Demolition Derby events and that formula indeed did increase the car counts for the regular season. However the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby is no regular season event and with than in mind carries its own set of rules. “The rules for the National Championship are pretty much what they have been over the years” track publicist Bob Finan noted. Not only will the winner take home an increased share of the purse but the prize money increase filters down according to Finan. “Barbara & Jim will also offer $500 to the Judge’s Choice and $250 for the Fan’s Choice which is up from past years; we’re hoping to have a historic championship event on the 5th”.
Once the news of the winners share increasing to $2,500 on social media interest spiked immediately not only on Long island but in Florida, New England, Pennsylvania and central New York State. “The great thing about the Riverhead National Championship Demo is everyone goes right into the main event. There are no heat races that weaken a team’s car and you go after the big prize in a fresh car” Finan added. Another added bonus for Demo teams that might travel to Long Island for the event is the fact it takes place the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, traditionally a three day weekend for most.
The NASCAR Modifieds will compete in Twin 30 races September 5th and be joined by a 20-lap Figure Eight feature as well the Blunderbusts, Super Pro Truck and Legend Race Cars.
