Vintage Race Cars To Complement Riverhead Old Timers Night Sat. Aug. 15th
The 2015 edition of Old Timers Night at Riverhead Raceway will be a sentimental and nostalgic affair as Barbara & Jim Cromarty turn the clock back on an evening where they will also induct three very deserving individuals on the Wall of Fame. To celebrate the rich history of racing on Long Island a healthy display of Vintage Race Cars are expected to be on hand for the program that starts at 6:00 pm.
A full slate of NASCAR Whelen All American Series stock car racing will see action featuring the NASCAR Modifieds who will compete in a 35-lap main event. The Late Models, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks will all battle in 30-lap extra distance features while an 8-Cylinder Enduro will close out the show.
An on track ceremony hosted by Barbara & Jim will find Mike Ewanitsko, Robin Vollmoeller and the late Car Zeh enshrined on the Wall of Fame that greets race fans as they enter the 65-year old track by the turn three admission gate. Ewanitsko authored some 30 NASCAR Modified victories at the demanding quarter mile of which 11 were in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races. Vollmoeller won a total of 47 races at Riverhead spread across several divisions, 30 of those triumphs came in what is now known as the Charger division. Zeh along with drivers Jim Malone Sr. and Don Howe won not only numerous races at the historic track but also numerous championships. Don Howe will be on hand and he is expected to be joined by Jim Malone Sr.
Howe will have the famed #34 Car Zeh Auto Repair Cavalier that took him and Zeh to so many wins and titles not only at Riverhead but Islip Speedway as well. Joining Don in the Vintage Race Car pit area will be 4 of Charlie Jarzombek’s #1 racing machines courtesy Rick Jarzombek. In that fleet will be the Bug Modified that started it all for the Jarzombek clan as well the Vega, Chevette and Cavalier, all told “Charging Charlie won 63 races at Riverhead, still tops on the all time win list. Harold Seaman current owner of the famed offset #1 Coupe of Charlie Jarzombek will also be pit side with the radical car.
With Mike Ewanitsko’s induction on the Wall of Fame plans are for the Ira Bromley #23 Monza to be part of the festivities with current car owner Norman Pepper. Bob Krollage will have the John Ambrose #7-11 Coupe on hand and former driver Joe Krukowski is expected as well. Jim Kelly has seen track time in 2015 at Riverhead with his restored Pontiac Sunfire Modified and will be on hand as will 1959 Sportsman Champion Jimmy Reed and his familiar #17x racer. Those and many more Vintage Cars will hit the track during the Old Timers night program and will be assigned a special area in the pit area for the fans to look at these famous machines after the races.
