Labor Day Weekend Double Header Set For Sept 5th & 6th at Riverhead
As hard as it is to fathom, the summer of 2015 as well as the 2015 NASCAR Whelen All American Series at Riverhead Raceway is winding down with the annual Labor Day weekend fast approaching. Once again Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty will offer two big race programs over the weekend with Saturday night September 5th featuring NASCAR stock car racing and the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Championship while Sunday September 6th is reserved for Enduro racing.
The recent announcement of a $2,500 payday to the winner of the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Championship Saturday September 5th has spiked the interest of Demo competitors up and down the East Coast, including some former World & National champions who still call Long island home. With the event moved to the Saturday of Labor Day weekend it is hoped traveling logistics for out of state teams will be made easier with most folks not having to go back to work until Tuesday. Another added attraction for our of state Demo veterans is everyone goes right into the feature event as there are no heats and the entry fee is a very affordable $50, which includes the drivers pit pass, a $30 value.
Prior to the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Championship being contested the 600 horsepower NASCAR Modifieds will compete in Twin 30 feature events while the “world famous” Figure Eight racers will go 20-laps daring the intersection at each and every turn. The Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars will all race in 20-lap feature events starting at 6:00 pm
Sunday afternoon September 6th at 12:30 pm the Enduro racers will take over the quarter mile oval headed up by the Grand and Truck Enduro classes who will race 50-lap features. The 8-Cylinder Enduro troops will run 2 races on the day and be joined by the 4/6-Cylinder Cars and a Gut & Go Enduro to round out the program. In the event of rain Sunday that show would be run Monday Labor Day September 7th at 12:30 pm.
