10 to Go with Chris Lescenski

We’re back with another edition of 10 to Go. This past week, we spoke with Chris “Short Round” Lescenski of Riverhead, NY. Chris is the driver of the No. 18 Late Model.

How did you get started racing?

Chris Lescenski: I began in enduros and made my way up to Late Models.

How long have you been racing?

Lescnenski: I ran my first enduro at 16, I ran Grands (Grand Enduros) for a couple years, and have been racing Late Models for the past two years.

What do you like about racing Late Models?

Lescenski: I love the speed, and I like being able to race with my best friend Jeremy (Jeremy McDermott, driver of the No. 4 Late Model). Mainly the speed though, full bodied racing is the best kind of racing.

What other tracks have you raced at?

Lescenski: I’ve raced at Riverhead of course and I raced at Thompson (Connecticut) last year during the World Series.

What other tracks would you like to race at given the opportunity?

Lescenski: I would like to go to Thompson again, and I would love to go to Mountain (Pennsylvania), but it’s closed.

What is the reason behind your number?

Lescenski: I used to run 46 because that was my dad’s number back when he raced. I used that in Grands and I used it last year. I made the switch to 18 because that’s what the sponsors wanted. They help pay the bills.

Do you plan on moving up?

Lescenski: Nope. I plan on staying in Late Models. It’s so competitive here, like I said before, nothing beats full bodied racing. I would drive a Modified though if given the chance.

Do you have any pre race superstitions?

Lescenski: Not really. All I try to do is have fun and not make any enemies. What’s the point in coming if you’re not having fun?

What would you say was the best moment of your career?

Lescenski: Opening night this year, finishing third while Jeremy won the race.

And your worst?

Lescenski: The following week. I got into a hard wreck while battling for the lead. Messed the car up pretty bad and was sore afterwards.
