LI Automotive Swap Shop Tradition To Continue At Riverhead Dec. 6th
A long standing racing tradition on Long island will continue Sunday December 6th as Bob Finan will present the Long Island Automotive Swap Shop at Riverhead Raceway. The event originated in the late 70’s at Islip Speedway when L.I. racing personality “Big” Bob O’Rourke began the Swap Shop as forum for race teams to buy and sell their equipment.
“First I have to thank new track owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz for allowing me the opportunity to continue the Swap Shop tradition” Bob Finan stated in announcing the 2015 event. “With the evolution and popularity of the new Riverhead Modified Crate class I feel the 2015 Swap Shop will be one of the busiest ever, especially for buyers and sellers in the NASCAR Modified and SK Type Modified department” said Finan. Several area teams have begun the process in putting Riverhead Modified Crate cars together. Dylan Slepian, Terry Stiles, Visconti/Barton Motorsports, Dave Brigati, Rob Bader and Cody Triola are among those teams.
Since announcing the December 6th Swap Shop date on social media Bob has received interest from numerous vendors including Dave Brigati & Brian Schwarz of Outlaw Inc., long time Swap Shop loyalists and Terry Stiles who in his words will have “a fire sale” of his Blunderbust team, Bill Park who will be liquidating what is left of his NASCAR Modified team. Jim Laird Jr. will be on hand selling an 8-Cylinder Enduro car and parts and Eric Zeh will have a variety of racing items including go karts for sale with many other vendors expected.
The Long Island Automotive Swap Shop will find vendors selling everything from complete race cars right down to a set of lug nuts and everything in between. Fuel cells, wheels, tires, shocks, springs, seats, engines, rear ends, gears, race car trailers open and enclosed will be available.
Go Kart racers, Motorcycle enthusiasts and clubs, Drag Racing teams and Off Road racers are welcome to join the fun in the Riverhead Raceway pit area December 6th either as vendors or buyers.
Collectible dealers are especially welcome at the Swap Shop as are race teams who have leftover wearing apparel they’d like to sell. Noted local racing historian Robert Clock has alerted Bob Finan that he’ll again be on hand with his vast collection of nostalgic photo albums. With the Holiday season just around the corner buyers can accomplish some gift buying for the racing fan in their family.
Pit gates will swing open at 9:00 am Sunday December 6th with admission for vendors $20 per spot, vendor space will be available the day of the event only. Browsers and buyers will pay just a $5 entry fee. For further information please contact Bob Finan via a private message on Facebook.
