Cassandra Denis Moves to Blunderbusts
Ever since she can recall all Cassandra Denis of Ridge dreamed about was racing in one of the Saturday night divisions that make up the weekly NASCAR All American Series at Riverhead Raceway. Today Denis announced she will indeed realize that dream racing full time in the Blunderbust class in 2016 with sponsorship for Hampton Coffee Company. Cassandra will be in the Blunderbust field on Grand Opening Night Saturday May 7th.
Denis was born into a racing family as her father Scott worked under and learned his fabricating skills from the late Artie Tappen Sr. Her brother Jimmy was a successful Grand Enduro and Super Pro Truck driver before enlisting in the US Army completing his term of service this past winter.
“I can’t express how excited I am for the start of the 2016 race season” Cassandra noted, “Hampton Coffee Company and their sponsorship are making all of this possible and I can’t thank them enough”. Over the off season Denis and her longtime boyfriend Rob “The Racer” McCormick purchased the former Frank LaPocca Blunderbust machine for 2016. Cassandra was the 2014 Wall Stadium Powder Puff champion winning four of seven races on her way to the title. 2015 found her racing in the Truck Enduro ranks at Riverhead Raceway. Cassandra is hopeful that her Truck Enduro experience will speed up her learning curve in the Blunderbust car.
Hampton Coffee Company boasts four locations on the east end of Long Island with shops in Water Mill, Westhampton Beach, Southampton and Aquebogue. Denis and McCormick also disclosed they have signed National Business Capital of Bohemia to the newly formed team as an associate sponsor.
Cassandra Denis will get her first taste of full tilt Blunderbust racing Saturday night when Riverhead Raceway hosts Grand Opening Night complete with a huge Fireworks spectacular. A 20-lap main event is on tap for the 4,200 pound machines with “Slick Pick” Tom Pickerell of Huntington the defending champion of the class.
