Excitement Building For Mullet Madness 100 June 11th at Riverhead
When the 2016 Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Whelen All American Series schedule was released over the off season one of the first events that stood out was the Mullet Madness 100 set for next Saturday June 11th. The unique event and coinciding contest has drawn both interest and excitement from both race fans and competitors who equally are excited about the program highlighted by Twin 50’s for the NASCAR Modifieds as well the seasons first Demolition Derby.
The Mullet hair style came into prominence and peaked in popularity in the 1980’s featuring long hair in the back while the sides of the style were neatly trimmed. The Mullet rage was popular with all walks of life from sports stars, musicians, entertainers and the average American citizen alike. Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz, new owners of Riverhead Raceway will stage a Best Mullet Contest Saturday evening and recently Gatz announced some prizes for the event. “Our friends at Twisted Tea have provided us with a Cooler/Radio,as well beach towels for the shore, plus a Cornhole game for prizes and we’ll have more to announce the day of the Mullet Madness contest” The Mullet judging will take place in the popular Beer Garden in the third turn midway of the track.
The on track portion of the Mullet Madness 100 will find the NASCAR Modified going to battle in Twin 50 feature events with Shawn Solomito of C. Moriches looking to continue his early season hot streak. Defending NASCAR Modified champion Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead is hopeful to be back in form for the race as are two other former champions John Fortin Sr. of Holtsville and Howie Brode of E. Islip. Two young lions have been making some noise early on in the 2016 campaign and bear watching in the Mullet Madness Twins are Kyle Soper of Manorville and Vinny Biondolillo of Farmingville. With an open weekend on the NASCAR WMT schedule some other driver are expected to visit preparing for their June 25th race at Riverhead.
Joining the NASCAR Modifieds on the card are the Late Models, Figure Eights, Riverhead Modified Crates, Legend Race Cars and a 8-Cylinder Enduro. With the seasons first Demolition Derby postponed back on May 14th the Demo warriors will make their first bone jarring & car destroying appearance of 2016 to conclude the Mullet Madness program. The first Big Wheel Race for children will also make a delayed debut after being washed out back on May 21st.
