NWMT 200 To Close Out Month of June on the 28th at Riverhead

The busy month of June at Riverhead Raceway will come to an exciting conclusion on Saturday June 25th when the cars & stars of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour come calling for a 200-lap event.
Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville who swept both ends of the WMT Long Island stops in 2015 is one competitor looking forward to the first WMT race hosted by new track owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz.

When the race teams and their members along with the fans who follow the popular NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour first hit the property they’ll notice the vast capital improvement project the venerable 66-year old facility underwent since their September visit last year. One thing however that has not changed will be the wheel to wheel racing the WMT stars will provide on the tight and demanding confines of the quarter mile oval.

After a Saturday rain forced the 2015 June WMT stop to be pushed to Sunday afternoon, 2011 Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Modified champion Justin Bonsignore won the exciting race which he dubbed afterwards “The 24 Hours of Riverhead” Bonsignore and his M3 Technologies team owner Ken Massa were the first to circle the June 25th Riverhead date when the 2016 WMT schedule was released and are ready to defend their victories.

Eric Goodale of Riverhead won his first career WMT at his home track and hopes to grace victory lane off his 4th place tally in this race last season.Ryan Preece of Berlin, Ct. has listed the Riverhead June 25th race on his 2016 schedule and will be driving for track owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and nothing would be sweeter for the Xfinity Series rookie driver than winning the first WMT race they host. The racing Solomito boys are ready for the 200-lapper with Timmy of Wading River placing 6th in last years race, while Shawn of C. Moriches has won the first two NASCAR WAAS Modified races at the track in 2016. Riverhead resident and WMT regular Dave Sapienza was 10th last year and should fair well once again at the track he called home for many seasons.

Add to the mix the ever talented Riverhead WAAS drivers and the WMT roster expands for the 28 spots available for the race. Tom Rogers Jr. won the Coors Light Pole Award for the race last year and the defending track champion is expected to compete in the 2016 edition of the race. Tom was 7th in the race. Young 18-year old Vinny Biondolillo of Farmingville was going toe to toe with some of the WMT’s best in the 2015 race before coming home a respectable 10th.

Joing the NASCAR WMT stars on the June 25th program are the Late Models, Riverhead Modified Crates and INEX Legend Race Cars.
