50-lap Late Models & Go-Kart Expo Set For June 18th at Riverhead
The newly configured and ultra competitive Late Model division of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series will take center stage at Riverhead Raceway Saturday night June 18th as they’ll compete in a 50-lap main event. Also sharing the spotlight will be the annual Eastern Long Island Racing Go Kart Expo featuring a on track exhibition for the ELIR racers that will join five other feature events.
The new rules package for the 2016 Late Model season has provided some exciting on track results to date with for four time Charger champion Chris Turbush of Wading River and tested tough veteran “Jumping” Jack Orlando of Calverton taking early season wins. Aside from Turbush other Charger division converts have enjoyed early season success in their new division with David Roys of Coram, Eric Zeh of Selden and “Radiant” Ray Minieri of Bay Shore sitting in the top ten in points as of press time. However the Late Model veterans are expected to have something to say about who wins the 50-lapper Saturday night as well the season long championship with defending LM champion Jeremy McDermott of Riverhead leading the charge. Roger Oxee of Peconic the all time leading LM winner along with Chris Lescenski of Riverhead, former two time champion Kevin Metzger of Massapequa. Shawn Patrick of Brightwaters and another former champ Mike Bologna of Melville will all be out for the win June 18th. Time trial qualifying will set the field for the LM 50.
The NASCAR Modifieds will run a 40-lap feature event and will be joined by the Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and the Legend Race Cars who will run a 30-lapper with time trial qualifying. The Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks will race 20-lap races with a Truck Enduro rounding out the card.
During the course of the evening the ELIR go kart teams will take to the track to showcase their form of racing and skill set. The ELIR on track display will be an exhibition only but watching the various classes get around the historic quarter miler is fun for both fans and participants alike.
Feature event racing will start at 7:00 pm Saturday June 18th at Riverhead Raceway.
