Demolition Derby & Enduros Highlight Memorial Day Weekend at Riverhead

The Memorial Day weekend is upon us and at Riverhead Raceway that can mean only one thing, action and plenty of it! Promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty will again present a doubleheader of racing action highlighted by a 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby that will join the NASCAR stock cars Saturday with Sunday afternoon reserved for another exciting card of Enduro racing.

Twin 15’s for the Late Models will take center stage Saturday evening with defending LM champion Jeremy McDermott of Riverhead leading the class into action. Joining McDermott will be Chris LaSpisa of Shirley and Peter “Buzzy” Eriksen of Baldwin both of whom have already broken into victory lane in 2014. All-time leading LM winner Roger Oxee of Peconic will be gunning for his 65th career win while Mike Bologna of Melville, Ken Alfano of Southold, Kevin Metzger of Massapequa and Scott Kulesa of Georgetown, MA are also out for their first win of the new season.

Completing the Saturday NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program will be the “Mighty’ NASCAR Modifieds who will see action in a 35-lap contest. The Chargers, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars will all race 20-lap main events with the Legends qualifying via heat races.

After all the stock car action is wrapped up it will be the season’s first bone jarring, car destroying 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby hitting the track. Leading the charge will be 2014 Riverhead Raceway Demolition Derby champion Jason Savoy of Lake Panamoka in his “Misery Machine” with his brother Brian Savoy, the 2014 National Demolition Derby champion expected to join him. Other entrants expected are “The 911” George Astacio of Shirley, the father and son combo of Rich & Andrew Fowler of Wantagh as well as “The Maniac” Matt Mulqueen of Levittown.

Round 2 of the Enduro race series will unfold Sunday afternoon May 25th with James Charrier of Shirley looking to back up his opening day victory in their 50-lap feature. Looking to do the same will be Greg Harris of Riverhead in the Truck Enduro, Rob “The Racer” McCormick of Calverton who swept both 8-Cylinder Enduro races on May 4th as well as Peter Verwys Jr. of East Rockaway who topped the 4/6-Cylinder Car Enduro

Legend heat races will kick-off qualifying Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm with Late Model and NASCAR Modified time trials to follow, feature event racing will commence at 5:30 pm. Sunday the Grand Enduro event will hit the track at 12:30 pm to kick off that five event show.  In the event of rain Sunday the Enduros would run Monday Memorial Day.
