Riverhead NASCAR Modifieds to Continue Time Trial Qualifying for Remainder of 2015
Sunday afternoon at Riverhead Raceway just prior to the second show of the annual Memorial Day weekend doubleheader, track owners and promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty announced that the NASCAR Modifieds will continue to utilize time trial qualifying for the remainder of the 2015 Whelen All-American Series. The original 2015 schedule had several races that were to use the track handicapping system to determine the starting line-up but those plans have been scrapped.
Over the past several seasons the track has used the time trial format to determine the weekly NASCAR Modified line-up whether the race is a regular 35-lapper, Twin 30’s or any distance. During the off season the Cromarty’s along with their NASCAR Officials looked at the handicap system and in fact had several races on the 2015 schedule that were to use that format. Upon further review of the logistics involved track management has decided to stay the course with time trial qualifying for the rest of 2015. Depending on car count either the top 6 or 8 from qualifying will redraw for their positions in the main event.
This Saturday night May 30th the NASCAR Modifieds will compete in Twin 30 feature events and one week later the annual and popular Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek Memorial 50 on June 6th with both events now using time trial qualifying. Also the annual Cromarty Cup race on Saturday July 4th, a race that originally was to use the handicapping system will see the field qualifying via time trials for this very special 65-lap race in honor of both Jim Cromarty’s birthday as well as the 65th Anniversary season of the track.
