Fanfare: The Kloppenburg Family
Fanfare is a new feature for the LongIslandJam. Each week we will pick out a couple of fans and highlight why they decided to take in the action at Riverhead Raceway.
Billy Kloppenburg has been coming to Riverhead Raceway for about 20 years now.
“Back in 1991 I came as a friend of Chris Turbush,” said Kloppenburg. “His dad let me sit in his car to take pictures and stuff.”
Now he brings his three young sons, Brandon, Erik, and Jared to the track to hopefully get them hooked on the sport he loves.
Though each of them haven’t been coming to the track for long, Erik and Jared have already figured out which division they like the best.
Jared explained emphatically that he loves the Modifieds, and Erik said his favorite division is the Super Pro Trucks.
The elder Kloppenburg said his favorite division is the Chargers. Considering it is the same division that his friend, Chris Turbush races in.
Kloppenburg sees his family coming to Riverhead for many years to come. “It’s a family event for all ages,” said Kloppenburg. “We’re here sitting next to an 80-year-old. It’s the perfect family sport.”
